They don't get any more laugh out loud funny than this slapstick Star Wars parody at the hands of master Director Mel Brooks. The hit to miss ratio with the gags is extremely high, thanks to perfect casting and the actors ability to go with the madcap scenarios thrown at them. From literally 'combing the desert' to nonsensical salutes, Brooks and company are clearly having a ball here, letting us in on the fun all the while.

There is just such great silly fun to be had throughout, from forth wall breaking moments in which the 'baddies' watch the movie unfolding before them, a moment when Pizza the Hut eats himself to death, through to the manner in which the characters bring their 'light sabres' to life. Bill Pullman and John Candy are great as lead men resembling Han Solo and Chewbacca, while Rick Moranis and Mel Brooks bring their more slapstick comic stylings to the evil 'Spaceball' characters.

While the much welcome take down of the Star Wars franchise is a treat, the parodying of other Sci-Fi classics gets the biggest laughs. John Hurt's recreation of the iconic Alien scene when a xenomorph bursts through his stomach is initially quite scary, until a Cabaret performance from the alien transforms it into one of the funniest moments in cinema history. The Planet of the Apes parody is a hoot too, a short skit that brings tears to the eyes for all the right reasons.
