1. Children of Men
Alfonso Cuaron's 2006 film Children of Men depicts a futuristic dystopia which women have become infertile. The world we see has degenerated, with terrorist attacks and freedom fighters being seemingly omnipresent. But when the protagonist Theo's wife encounters him with an offer to assist a young girl in travel, his life is unraveled when he learns what his mission really involves and the consequences at stake. Aside from an interesting plot and performances by Clive Owen and Michael Caine, the most memorable aspects of the film involve the camera work. A now-famous shot lasting multiple minutes without a cut results in a car chase, with the car switching back and forth from drive and reverse, flaming cars, gunshots and motorcycles. Towards the end of the film, another shot sees blood splatter on the camera lens and linger there, an added touch of realism to an already harrowing film.
