10 Best Sci-Fi Films Of The 21st Century So Far

2. Moon

moon-poster1-header Duncan Jones could have simply rode on the coat tails of his father, rock legend Ziggy Stardust himself David Bowie. Instead, he opted to get involved in existential science fiction films. While his sophomore effort Source Code was considerably more successful, Jones' debut movie Moon was one of the most fascinating science fiction films of recent times. Sam Bell, played by Sam Rockwell, is an astronaut alone on a spacecraft. When we first meet Sam, he is a mere two weeks away from returning home. But when Sam begins having delusions that result in a moonrover crash, the purpose of his mission suddenly becomes unclear. As Sam learns more about this journey he's taken, more questions arise from the audience. Sam Rockwell is fantastic in this film, which all but literally rests on his shoulders.
