Even the strangest of tales can be beautiful. Sometimes when the world is dark and emits utter dread, we can find something to connect to on a deeper level. What appears to be absurd can be relatable.

Directed by Jean-Pierre Jeunet and Marc Caro, the film City of Lost Children tells the story of an odd humanoid called Krank, who cannot dream. He uses a cyborg cult called the Cyclops to kidnap children. He then harvests their dreams to counteract his ageing. One, the protagonist, aims to take down Krank, and on his journey meets both obstacles and heartache.

The City of Lost Children touches on many themes. The film explores the fear of growing old and the ignorance of youth. However, loyalty shines through as the major theme.

On the surface, there doesn't seem to be much that's relatable. But the fact is, films such as City of Lost Children can subvert expectations to tell an engaging story.
