7. Bumblebee (2018)

I Am Your Mother
Paramount

It took over ten years and the departure of Michael Bay, but in 2018 director Travis Knight finally gave fans the Transformers film they deserved. Bumblebee is light, filled with genuinely likable characters and a wholesome tone. There's no crass Bay humour or strained fan service, just a film that takes its time and makes for a great offering of family entertainment.

The film follows Bumblebee (Dylan O'Brien, briefly) as he forms a bond with teenager Charlie (Hailee Steinfeld) whilst setting up an Autobot base on Earth. There, he faces off against the US army and John Cena's determined Agent Burns, and must find a way to protect his new friends and his own race.

It's fairly typical stuff overall, but carries with it such charm and easy going humour that it's impossible not to love every second. Far removed from what audiences were used to in terms of live-action Transformers films, Bumblebee proves that there's still room for the franchise on the big screen.
