10 Best Sci-Fi Movies Starring Star Trek Actors (That Aren't Star Trek)

9. Flubber (Wil Wheaton)

Brent Spiner Data Independence Day
CBS/Disney

A remake of Disney's 1961 hit, The Absent-Minded Professor, Flubber stars Robin Williams as Professor Philip Brainard, your average mad scientist who, while attempting to find a new source of sustainable energy, ends up creating a super-elastic green slime with a will of its own and a penchant for wreaking havoc.

This 'flubber' attracts the attention of the scheming Chester Hoenicker, the sponsor of the college Brainard works at, who already holds a grudge against Brainard for failing his son in chemistry class. And who plays this son, you ask? None other than Wil Wheaton, known for his tenure as Wesley Crusher on Star Trek: The Next Generation.

It's fun to see the 25-year-old Wheaton (albeit playing a teenager) take on a villainous role here, as opposed to the twee and baby-faced Wesley that fans have polarising opinions of. And while the critics certainly didn't have much time for this comedy classic, the performances of Williams, Wheaton and the rest of the cast make it an enjoyable family flick nonetheless.
