Those who remember the grand lineup of '90s superhero cartoons will no doubt hail Batman: The Animated Series as one of the era's finest. The critically acclaimed show ran from 1992 to 1995 and won numerous awards, including a Daytime Emmy for arguably the series' most memorable episode.

'Heart of Ice' marks the introduction of Mr. Freeze, reworking him from a run-of-the-mill mad scientist into a former cryogenicist whose efforts to preserve his terminally ill wife led to an accident permanently altering his body chemistry. He is voiced by Michael Ansara, who played the Klingon warrior Kang in Star Trek: The Original Series, and later in Deep Space Nine with a drastic update to his appearance.

The 1998 film, Batman & Mr. Freeze: SubZero, sees Ansara reprise his villainous role, and with the help of series regulars Kevin Conroy and Efrem Zimbalist Jr., this welcome extension of the animated series took home an Annie award for Best Home Video Animation.
