10 Best Sci-Fi War Films
6. Dawn Of The Planet Of The Apes
Planet of the Apes boasts one of the longest running Sci-Fi movie series, and although there has been more than one dud in the series (yes, that means you, Tim Burton), recent years have seen some truly brilliant Planet of the Apes titles.
Special effects seem to have finally caught up to the series' ambition, and it really shines through in the Dawn of the Planet of the Apes.
It's equal parts post-apocalyptic and action based, in which a group of humans that have survived a plague attempt to stay alive in the ruins of San Francisco, while Caesar struggles to maintain control over his community of intelligent apes.
It has everything that we love about Planet of the Apes movies, but it does it just a little better. There's emotion, there's tension and there's so much humanity in the ape characters that it's impossible not to be drawn in.
It won the Academy Award for Best Visual Effects, an accolade that it thoroughly deserved.
