7. Pacific Rim

Edge of Tomorrow Live Die Repeat
Universal

Ever wondered what would happen if massive sea monsters emerged from an interdimensional portal under the Pacific?

Well, thanks to Pacific Rim, you don't have to.

Yes, on the surface, it may seem just a little too close to Transformers, but take a closer look and it's a whole different beast.

In Pacific Rim, humankind have created the Jaegers, huge humanoid mechas, which are each controlled by humans with a telepathic link.

Pacific Rim is seen by many as a love letter to Japanese monster movies and anime, and it's hard to argue with the notion. In fact, the sea monsters that the humans are fighting are even called the Kaiju (which is the name of the giant monster movie genre in Japan).

It performed well at the international box office, and was a commercial success. It has also gained a cult following, and garnered mostly positive critical reviews.

The moral of the story is that everyone loves watching giant robots fight.
