10 Best Second Kills In Horror Movies

9. Paul Taylor - The Blob (1988)

Evil Dead 2013
TriStar Pictures

The second entry on our list is also from a movie directed by Chuck Russell, seemingly confirming his knack for delivering creatively gnarly death scenes.

His 1988 remake of The Blob is often praised for its incredibly intricate and grotesque gore effects, the most impressive and shocking of which comes only second.

Early on, the likeable Paul Taylor (Donovan Leitch) - who certainly seems like he's going to be a major character - is helpless to fend off the titular organism, when it drops from the hospital ceiling on top of him and begins the devouring process.

His love interest Meg (Shawnee Smith) returns just in time to see him being melted by the Blob. Her attempts to pull him free only result in his arm being ripped clean off, after which what little remains of him is graphically dissolved.

This is one of those deaths that'll stamp itself on your brain forever more. The fantastic gore effects are one thing, but the focus on Paul's suffering as he's reduced to nothing is honestly still tough to shake all these years later.
