10 Best Serial Killers In Movies

9. Hans Beckert - M

Mickey Knox Natural Born Killers
Nero-Film

Considering this film is from 1931, it's bizarre how Fritz Lang's M was even made, especially since directors would have a hard time getting a film like that made today!

Telling the story of a serial child murder in 1931 in Berlin, M explores the deeper side of the human psyche and the kind of mind that drives someone to commit these heinous crimes.

Step up, Hans Beckert. Beckert's motives are explained towards the show-stopping climax of M as he reveals that no matter what, he just cannot stop himself from committing these crimes, that there is something inside him that he just cannot escape, a demon that he will never best.

Beckert's actions as "In the Hall of the Mountain King" whistling murderer begins to disrupt the actions of the organised crime outfits in Berlin, as the police begin interrupting their operations to find the elusive Beckert.

As the mob begins to help, the criminals themselves begin to find detest for this disgusting murderer. While Beckert is held in a kangaroo court at the end, he pleads to be freed of his insanity, but the police arrive just in time.

Petter Lorre's turn as Hans Beckert is particularly scary, as he begins speaking to the children that he will eventually kill, begins whistling in a very creepy manner and evades capture from the police for the duration of the film, even sending them hand-written notes.
