4. Ash And Cheryl - The Evil Dead
Before the series (d)evolved into a goofy time travel comedy adventure (and then, after that, an almost-as-goofy TV sitcom) Sam Raimi's The Evil Dead was a hardcore video nasty about a man (Bruce Campbell's Ashley 'Ash' Williams) repeatedly hacking bits off of himself, his zombified girlfriend and his sister.
Which is not to say that The Evil Dead wasn't quite funny in its own way. If you happen to be a fan of extreme violence and the Three Stooges, anyway.
The most iconic of all the Evil Deadites is Ash's own sister, Cheryl (Ellen Sandweiss). Raped by trees and subsequently possessed by a Deadite demon, Cheryl is the gore-mouthed, white-eyed gnashing monster that fans will forever associate with the franchise. A
ll of the Deadites across Raimi's trilogy look stupendous, but Cheryl is truly, uniquely iconic. Cheryl (and Sandweiss) would return to torment Ash over twenty years later in Season 2 of Ash vs Evil Dead, forcing poor Ash to kill and dismember his sister all over again. Not groovy.
