10 Best Slasher Film Franchises

1. Friday The 13th

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=gjiqwTv9yeI Number of films: Ten, plus a reboot and a crossover. Ki ki ki ma ma ma - a chilling sound that haunted many 80's moviegoers. Friday the 13th took the formula of Halloween, bumped up the blood and relocated to Camp Crystal Lake to create a sublime slasher film. Believable characters, an equally beautiful and sinister location and an amazing twist ending give the original Friday the title of one of the grand slammers of horror. And all without introducing its most famous feature. Yes, any fan of the Friday series will tell you Jason didn't appear until the sequel, and didn't don the hockey mask until Part 3. But with each sequel and each new addition, the series just managed to maintain a decent level of quality and never stooped when it came to giving fans what they wanted - more blood, more gore, more deaths and more of Jason being awesome. Even Freddy vs. Jason seemed to favour the hulking hockey brute when it came to the kills and the fights. Jason Voorhees is an unstoppable monster and the Friday the 13th series is his playground. The first line of films were flawlessly entertaining, followed swiftly by Jason Goes to Hell and Jason X, which took vastly different new directions for the series and yet still made a satisfying watch. Even the 2009 remake (which once again was the responsibility of Platinum Dunes) was superior to most other horror remakes, sticking to the simplistic but effective formula of the original films and not straying too far from its source. Friday the 13th stands as the most successful slasher franchise there has ever been, and the only one without a single stand out flaw in its line of films (Season of the Witch, we're looking at you). Jason has tackled the entire world and even further than it in his films, and his films have done much the same.
