10 Best Slasher Horror Movie Fakeout Endings
4. Slumber Party Massacre II
Receiving a limited theatrical release in 1987, Slumber Party Massacre II loosely follows on from its predecessor. While that first film had a deranged, drill-wielding middle-aged man as its crazed killer, this sequel picks things up with one of the survivors of that picture and resurrects its villain as a leather-sporting, hair-slicked, guitar-playing, finger-snapping greaser.
SPM2 is a rather novel beast in how it effectively doubles as a musical, with our rogue chasing and butchering his victims as fun '50s-infused rock 'n' roll tracks play and our Driller Killer - as he's referred to in the film's credits, and not to be confused with Abel Ferrara's 1979 movie - cheerily sings along.
Inevitably, this follow-up's finale comes down to the original film's survivor Courtney coming face-to-face with her tormentor. Once again playing out to upbeat music, the Driller Killer gleefully torments our final girl through a construction site, before she wins the day by setting the prick on fire.
With Slumber Party Massacre II's rogue now put down for good, it looks for all the world that Courtney can be at peace. Even better for Crystal Bernard's character, she awakens in her bed next to her previously-dead boyfriend, as it's implied that the horrors of SPM2 were all merely a dream and simply a part of the trauma Courtney had to deal with in the fallout of the first film.
Of course, here's where the fakeout comes in, as Courtney's boyfriend transforms into the Driller Killer, the camera pans out as she screams, and it's revealed that our sole survivor is actually now institutionalised.
