10 Best Slasher Horror Movie Remakes Of All Time
7. Friday The 13th (2009)
Friday The 13th (1980) was created to capitalise on the success of Halloween (1978) and audiences fresh appetite for slasher flicks. It introduced the lore of Jason Vorhees, a child seemingly allowed to drown by counsellors at Camp Crystal Lake. It is a movie in which Jason's mother Pamela takes revenge on those she blames, before she is beheaded in the final scene.
The film was a B-movie hit, which was closely followed by Part 2 (1980), which this time introducing a now-adult Jason - who has been living in the woods, having survived the drowning after all - returning to exert his own retribution. From here, the sequels snowballed into a long series of trashy movies, before this 2009 Michael Bay (The Hitcher) produced remake arrived, turning out to be a highly satisfying reboot, following the series having slowly hit rock bottom.
Condensing the Pamela Vorhees storyline solely to the introduction, the the redo jumps straight into Jason wearing a sack over his head (an homage to Part 2) and dispatching a group of young adults camping out in the woods. The brother of one of the campers comes to the area to look for his missing sister, while another group of young adults descend on a cabin for a weekend of partying. As might be expected, Jason soon attacks everyone, while also finding his trademark ice hockey mask, in a movie which interestingly ties together different parts of the original franchise.
