10 Best Slasher Horror Movie Remakes Of All Time

6. House Of Wax (2005)

House Of Wax

House of Wax (1953) is a classic Warner Bros. horror, starring the legendary Vincent Price as a wax sculptor who specialises in creating historical figures. He and his business partner argue over the future of their failing company, which results in his partner burning down the museum with the artist inside. Thought to have died in the blaze, Price's character mysteriously reappears 18 months later with a new exhibit of his own and a rather macabre way of sculpting his new creations.

The film itself was a remake of Mystery Of The Wax Museum (1933), and it took another 52 for years for the newest version to arrive. Directed by Jaume Collet-Serra (Black Adam) and loosely based on themes introduced in the original’s narrative, House Of Wax (2005) takes a fresh approach to the storyline. Here, the '05 picture introduces a group of young adults - including Elisha Cuthbert (The Girl Next Door/24) - who come across a strange and virtually deserted town after their car breaks down on a road trip.

The movie quickly descends into terror as our core group meet the town's mechanic and his brother Vincent, who appear to be the only ‘living’ inhabitants, and who are hiding a horrifying secret and are hellbent on the group staying in their town forever. The film unashamedly wears the influences of both Psycho and The Texas Chainsaw Massacre firmly on its sleeve, and features some highly inventive and gruesome kill sequences.
