While slasher films so often have a certain formula prevalent throughout, Benjamin R. Moody's 2015 film manages to stand out from the pack as something totally different to the rest of the movies often filed under the slasher subgenre.

Taking an inspired approach, Last Girl Standing shines the spotlight on what happens after a slasher film comes to an end.

With Akasha Villalobos delivering a phenomenal performance as Camryn, this picture opens up with that lead character and her friends being brutalized by a deer mask-adored killer known as The Hunter. Having seen her friends murdered, Camryn manages to somehow escape and survive this terrifying experience.

From there, Last Girl Standing jumps ahead four years down the line and picks up with a Camryn suffering from PTSD after the horrors she's seen. As Camryn tries to maintain a life of isolation, the audience gets a glimpse into the emotional impact of having to go through the horrific events so often depicted in slashers - made even worse by Camryn's paranoia that somebody is once again stalking her.

Serving very much as a character study of what happens to the 'final girl' once the cameras stop rolling, Last Girl Standing is a fascinating watch.
