10 Best Slasher Movies Since 2010

Released in 2017, Happy Death Day is another movie that took the slasher concept and turned it on its head.

In this film from Christopher Landon, we find poor Tree Gelbman being stalked by a mask-wearing nutcase. Standard slasher affair, right? For sure. What makes Happy Death Day such a breath of fresh air, however, is that the movie sprinkles in a healthy dose of Groundhog Day to its tale.

Each time Tree is killed by her mysterious stalker, she awakes to live out the same day over and over again - with her constantly being one-upped by her assailant each time she thinks she's managed to successfully navigate death this time around.

The concept of Happy Death Day is one of the more refreshing ideas to pierce the horror genre over the past decade, and it's one that offers up countless possibilities - as seen by last year's Happy Death Day 2U, which takes that original idea and adds an alternative reality to it.

To describe Happy Death Day as a modern-day Scream may be a tad hyperbolic, but there are certainly clear similarities in how the movie joins Wes Craven's 1996 game-changer in poking fun at the horror genre while simultaneously being a scary picture in its own right.
