10 Best Slasher Movies Since 2010

As Erin, Sharni Vincent is the perfect embodiment of a heroine who isn't prepared to take sh*t from anyone. And as a modern-day slasher, Adam Wingard's You're Next is the perfect example of how to deliver a familiar formula in a way that feels fresh, vibrant, and with a sense of unnerving tension laced throughout.

Initially screened at the Toronto International Film Festival in 2011 then given a full release in 2013, You're Next nicely turns the tables on the tropes so commonplace with horror, and in particular with the slasher subgenre.

At the flip of a switch, Erin goes from quiet, unassuming girlfriend, to a badass survivalist who is more than prepared to get her hands dirty when the need arises.

After the family home of her partner is ambushed by several figures wearing animal masks, Erin steps up to the mark in a major way and embarks on a one-woman survival spree that sees her take down these no-good sorts in a variety of different ways - from trusty axe, to handy food blender.

It could well be a bold statement to make, but You're Next is hands-down the best slasher movie of the past decade.

In addition to his current WhatCulture role of Senior Content Producer, Andrew previously spent nearly a decade as Online Editor and Lead Writer for the world's longest-running genre publication, Starburst Magazine, and his work has also been featured on BBC, TechRadar, Tom's Guide, WhatToWatch, Sportkskeeda, and various other outlets, in addition to being a Rotten Tomatoes-approved film critic. Between his main dayjob, his role as the lead panel host of Wales Comic Con, and his gig as a pre-match host for Wrexham AFC games, Andrew has also carried out a hugely varied amount of interviews, from the likes of Robert Englund, Kane Hodder, Adrienne Barbeau, Rob Zombie, Katharine Isabelle, Leigh Whannell, Bruce Campbell, and Tony Todd, to Kevin Smith, Ron Perlman, Elijah Wood, Giancarlo Esposito, Simon Pegg, Charlie Cox, the Russo Brothers, and Brian Blessed, to Kevin Conroy, Paul Dini, Tara Strong, Will Friedle, Burt Ward, Andrea Romano, Frank Miller, and Rob Liefeld, to Bret Hart, Sting, Mick Foley, Ricky Starks, Jamie Hayer, Britt Baker, Eric Bischoff, and William Regal, to Mickey Thomas, Joey Jones, Phil Parkinson, Brian Flynn, Denis Smith, Gary Bennett, Karl Connolly, and Bryan Robson - and that's just the tip of an ever-expanding iceberg.
