If you're thinking of ever having kids, maybe skip this one.

In The Lodge, an attempt for soon-to-be step-mom, Grace, to bond with her soon-to-be step-kids goes horribly wrong when their stay at a remote holiday lodge takes a turn for the terrifying.

Before you even hit the ten minute mark there is a moment where a character suddenly shoots themselves in the head. You'd think that this moment would prepare you for the rest of the film that follows. You would be wrong.

Anyone who has ever been in a toxic or abusive environment knows the horror that comes with feeling helpless and alone. This is exactly the feeling The Lodge elicits, as Grace is very much in the same sort of situation. She, and by proxy you, are trapped in a position of powerlessness.

Something is deeply wrong with these kids, and there is nothing she or us can do about it. The only choice we have is to sit and watch as events slowly unfold, eventually culminating in an ending that comes like a punch to the gut.
