10 Best Slow-Burning Psychological Horror Movies
6. Climax
Little do people know that the alternative title for this one was Anxiety: The Movie!
Climax focuses on a dance troupe who, during their afterparty in an abandoned building, discover that their punch bowl has been spiked with LSD. What follows is arguably the most effective anti-drug PSA put to screen since Requiem For a Dream.
While the first thirty to forty-five minutes may seem uneventful, the sense of calm they provide are not to be trusted. Director Gaspar NoƩ does this intentionally as he strategically paces his film in a way where it genuinely feels like a descent into utter madness.
There are moments, primarily toward the later half of the film, that are so merciless that you will feel compelled to contemplate what sequence of events in your life led up to you deciding to put this movie on. One of these moments for example involves a confrontation between two women, one pregnant and the other very angry and very high. To say any more would spoil the nasty surprise, but you can probably guess what happens.
Maybe considering Googling some local psychiatrists after the movie is over.
