10 Best Slow-Burning Psychological Horror Movies
5. Session 9
In just about every conversation about overlooked psychological horror movies it seems like Session 9 makes an appearance, and for good reason as it is a truly haunting gem you'll never forget.
While renovating an abandoned mental hospital, an asbestos cleaning crew find themselves becoming the victims of its dark past. Will they make it out alive? Or will they fall prey to whatever mysteries lurk inside?
Session 9 is flat out creepy. From the pacing and the score to the set design and costumes, everything about this movie is crafted specifically to unnerve and unsettle. What really sells its sense of uneasiness though is its characters and narrative.
As events in the film unfold and we learn more about our protagonists and the history of the building itself, things start to feel more and more sinister. It's as though, underneath all the dark secrets, there are even darker ones we as the audience are not privy to. At times it will feel like you are not meant to know certain things, that maybe it might be best if you remain blissfully unaware for your own mental safety.
