10 Best Sniper Scenes In Film
5. Hell Or High Water
Hell Or High Water is a fantastic film in the vein of a modern day Western. Ben Foster and Chris Pine's likeable bank robbers have their hands forced into a high stakes scheme in order to save their family's ranch. The results are one of the great cross country chases in modern cinema and it all comes to a head with an old fashioned shoot-out.
In a desperate final attempt to survive, Ben Foster's Tanner Howard has managed to pin the police down from the peak of a ridge, but little unbeknown to him Jeff Bridge's Hamilton has got the jump on him. The emotion of the scene is its standout, we have been on a journey so far with Tanner and his brother and he is cruelly taken away from us. 'Lord of the plains...that's me' he whispers with pride before Hamilton's shot rings across the plain.
We watch Tanner fall through Hamilton's scope, it feels as if it's miles away from us; we're helpless to save him. The one sliver of light is that moment before the shot, Tanner feels like the hero he has always wanted to be. If you haven't seen it, do yourself a favour and watch this absolute gem of a film.
