10 Best Stephen King Cameos

9. Pharmacist - Thinner

Stephen King Mr Mercedes
Paramount Pictures

This horror film from the director of Fright Night and Child's Play is an adaptation of the novel King wrote under his penname Richard Bachman. It tells the story of a lawyer who fatally runs over a gypsy woman and gets off scot-free. As revenge, the victim's father curses the overweight man to keep loosing weight until he is just a withered shell. It's gruesome, nasty and very, very boring.

With an author and director of this calibre behind the project, you would be surprised how far the mark was missed. It isn't terrible, but with no likeable characters, and some questionable performances and effects, it is unfortunately forgettable. But there is a good scene, the one that involves the court case where the lawyer is let off. It is here we also see Stephen King.

King plays the pharmacist that the gypsy's are stealing from and reacts as you would expect - namely by shouting in a passive aggressive manner. It's out of tone, feeling like a bit of slapstick comedy scene in a gore-fest. But at least it's fun.

Better comes with the court scene, when our character's realise he has nothing to give that would benefit their case and he is unceremoniously removed.

"They were stealing," we hear him whisper to the judge, who couldn't care less. Seeing his bewildered face as he is escorted out is cinematic gold. Again, it doesn't match the tone of the film, but it does add to the story. And the overall film, honestly.
