10 Best Stephen King Movie Adaptations

2. Carrie

Carrie Blood
United Artists

Brian De Palma's supernatural horror bursts with anxious energy thanks to magnificent, Oscar-nominated performances from Sissy Spacek and Piper Laurie as young Carrie and her religiously fanatical mother.

For the majority of Carrie's run-time, De Palma makes a horror movie out of something everyone has experienced in one form or another: being a teenager. The casual cruelty of the high school experience melded with the visceral terror of the onset of womanhood makes this one of the genre's most unique and groundbreaking entries, and that's without even mentioning the fiery finale.

A horror both disturbing and profoundly sad, King captures something very, very real beneath the fantastical conceit, and as far as adaptations go, it's impressive that the very first remains one of the absolute best.
