9. Don't Breathe

Y'all picked the wrong house.

Career thieves Rocky, Money and Alex break into a suburban house. Their mission? To steal $300,000 from a blind veteran who lives alone with his rottweiler.

The trio swiftly realize that they have made a fatal mistake as the veteran, Norman Nordstrom, is revealed to be a deadly killer, one whose other senses have only been heightened by the loss of his sight. What ensues is a white knuckle worthy game of cat and mouse around the house as the enraged former soldier hunts the would be thieves with a strictly "no mercy" prerogative.

Don't Breathe is an absolute masterpiece of suspense-oriented horror. The simplicity behind the plot aids to an absolute engrossing game of predator vs. prey, and the almost supernatural element associated with an antagonist who is literally such a vicious killer that his lack of sight is barely even an issue, adds a constant element of visceral terror to proceedings. The subject matter of the film gets increasingly more disturbing as the plot thickens, and serves only to ratchet up the level of breath-bated tension scene by scene.

Don't Breathe is one of those films where you may find yourself realizing that you are literally not breathing as Norman creeps towards you. A revolutionary, genre topping take on the home invasion genre and an absolute masterpiece of visual and auditory suspense.
