10 Best Summer Camp Horror Movies
9. Twisted Nightmare
Before anyone gets angry, it needs to be clarified that this film is by no means a cinematic masterpiece, but instead it sits comfortably in the 'so bad it's good' category. With performances so perfectly styled that it dates the movie instantly to the late eighties, and a twisted (if not slightly contrived) plot to compliment them, you know pretty quickly that the fun you'll derive from this movie may be mostly at its own expense.
After receiving a mysterious letter claiming that she has won a weekend trip to the summer camp she attended as a child, Laura and her boyfriend Shawn head to Camp Paradise for a nice vacation. She’s slightly nervous about returning to camp because just a couple of years prior, her disabled brother died there mysteriously. But hey, why trust your gut when you could be getting a free vacation?
After the first night, some of the camp attendees develop enough brain cells to question their invitations, and soon become even more worried when they discover two of their friends have been brutally murdered. A killer is at large amongst the camp returnees, and from the looks of things he is larger and more powerful than your average madman.
With tales of old Native curses accompanied by a beastly unknown killer, this film blends supernatural and slasher together in a way that will keep you guessing. For all the build-up to the twist, you're sure you have it figured out; however, to the film's credit, they still manage to add in one or two elements that the average psychic would probably fail to predict.
If what you're after is a summery supernatural slasher with all the silly fun that the 80's had to offer, then this is the movie for you.
