10 Best Superhero Films Of The 2010s

6. Captain America: Civil War (2016)

Wonder Woman
Marvel Studios

Probably the second most anticipated crossover event of the decade, Civil War had the biggest roster of heroes in a single MCU film to that point. And better still, they were going against each other!

Set after Age of Ultron, the Avengers have been split over a ruling that they be held by the government to be used only at their point of need. Tony Stark, guilty of the destruction and death inadvertently caused by Earth's Mightiest Heroes, sides with the government saying they need to be held accountable for their actions. Steve Rogers, on the other hand, wants to preserve the team's freedom to act when needed rather than when called upon.

This scenario creates interesting questions that were raised in the similar DC flick, Batman V Superman. The difference between the two though is Civil War gave the heroes a reason to fight, that being to repair the bonds before any more damage could take place from within the team.

And at the centre of all of this is, as it should be, Captain America. The titular hero is determined to keep his brainwashed friend from being arrested for a crime he didn't commit, not realising the much more personal attack on Tony that took place years before. The climax of the film is an emotional rollercoaster as you don't know who to root for, as well as knowing that nothing will be the same after this implosion.

It was also great to see so many characters come together, including the debuts of Black Panther, Ant-Man joining the team, and Spider-Man making his much anticipated arrival into the MCU.
