10 Best Superhero Films Of The 2010s
7. The LEGO Batman Movie (2017)
Hard to believe that of all the incredible Batman movies throughout the years, the best one of this decade was based on his plastic construction toy.
These films could very easily be quick cash grabs to promote their product (a trap that the second LEGO Movie fell into, despite how good it was) but these LEGO movies have always had excellent storytelling and stellar animation at its core. In this case, it looks at the relationship of Batman and the Joker along the lines of them being an old married couple: they're bitter but they can't live without each other whether they care to admit it or not.
As previously stated the animation is excellent, taking full advantage of how LEGO toys move and where they have to get creative to make certain limb shapes by, for example, taking the leg off and replacing it with a couple of blocks to simulate a bent leg. It's small things like that which make this films all the more admirable and charming.
As a Batman film, it's also great. It goes through the beats that a cinematic Batman film should go through while also forcing the main character to acknowledge the flaws of his lifestyle and his crime-fighting method, not moving on from his parent's deaths and not allowing anyone to get close to him, including his arch-nemesis.
It's a surprisingly deep kids film while also being a loving homage to the Dark Knight's storied and bizzare history.
