10 Best Superhero Movie Theme Songs

1. Superman - John Williams

Wonder Woman
Warner Bros.

What else was going to be number one? John Williams' theme to 1978's Superman not only sums up Superman as a character, it sums up the very notion of superheroism in one piece of music. When you hear this music, it is impossible to see anything in your mind other than Christopher Reeve soaring through the skies.

What else is there to really say about this theme that hasn't already be said? It is a glorious fanfare that perfectly sets the tone of this optimistic and grand epic of a superhero movie. As this song plays whilst the opening credits jet their way across the stars, it's hard not to feel like you are flying yourself. The music practically screams the word "Superman" right at you!

There's a reason why no composer until Hans Zimmer even dared to come up with a new Superman movie theme, and even then many called out for Williams' music to be reused in Man of Steel regardless. Even to this day, this theme is ubiquitous with heroism, as seen by its use in the Deadpool short No Good Deed earlier this year. Though there have been some great superhero themes since and there will be more in the future, John Williams' Superman theme will probably never be topped.
