10 Best Superhero Movies Of The 80s

No other movie character can generate the kind of hype, speculation and fan rage as Batman. The fact that entire fandoms lose their minds whenever a new Batman is announced, is a testament to the Caped Crusader’s high perch as one of the most influential figures in all of pop culture. In 1989, Tim Burton gave us the first real mainstream Batman movie (Adam West’s Batman was always more associated with the TV show), with Michael Keaton donning the cowl.

Keaton would go on to deliver a widely lauded performance that to this day remains one of the best Batman portrayals ever. He was helped along the way by a stellar cast, including Jack Nicholson’s Joker who provided the ideal foil for him.

It was not just the cast either as everything about the movie was brilliant. Starting with the dark overtones and gothic setting, to the tense atmosphere that continues to build all throughout the movie, to even a Batman-Vicky Vale romance that actually adds a layer complexity to the narrative.

And sure this movie featured a lot of alterations to the source material, even placing the Joker as the man who had killed Bruce’s parents, but somehow it all came off.

After battling Galactus and pinning Hulk Hogan in the main event of Wrestlemania, I've taken a break from living in fantasy worlds, to focus on writing about them. I'm a comic book geek, a wrestling mark, a break dancer, and a scientist. One of those things may not be true.
