10 Best Sword Fights In Movies

Although Troy never quite reached the epic levels it was striving for, there are certainly moments worth remembering. Brad Pitt has sensibly retreated back into darker dramatic roles these days, but of his mid-00s attempts to be an action star, Troy’s sword fight is certainly the best.

The long silence as the two fighters approach each other holds its nerve well for a film that’s never quite sure exactly what it is. The shots are magnificent here though, and while the narrative scenes of the movie can be called into question, the action scenes cannot.

The movements of both fighters, Pitt’s Achilles especially, are fluid and smooth. You can see the dedication of both stars, and the way Bana’s Hector grows weary as the fight goes on is well paced.

One thing you’d have to say is that it’s just lacking a little fun. Pitt and Bana apparently got on very well and even had little bets between each other when rehearsing the scene, but none of that enjoyment really comes through. It’s a well-shot scene with purpose, but it’s not particularly inspiring.
