This is a truly bizarre scene that you’d imagine was divisive among the production staff. It’s audacious, fun, and just the right side of stupid.
Danny Ocean and co are attempting to steal a precious Faberge egg, and in order to get close, they must adopt some of their signature disguises. Tess, it is noted, bears a striking resemblance to Hollywood actress Julia Roberts, and she masquerades as the famous movie star in their quest to pull off the ultimate heist.
It’s a bizarre meta-performance, Roberts playing a character playing her, but she pulls it off with no small amount of verve. Indeed it’s just about the only thing people tend to remember about an otherwise pretty bland piece of work.
The Ocean’s trilogy is at its best when it takes itself the least seriously, and they’re certainly not taking themselves seriously with this scene. Roberts injects the film with a large amount of its charm in a bizarre role few actors would have been able to pull off.
