7. Death In The Dorms

Death in the Dorms had all the potential to be trashy and exploitative. The Hulu docuseries presents six harrowing installments - each concerning students who were murdered on college campuses across America and hitting home with just about any viewer who has a loved one attending university.

However, the documentary turned out to be a somewhat pleasant surprise. Rather than falling into the sloppy trap of poring over the manner of death that these young adults endured, the series instead chose to focus on the investigations and aftermath of the killings themselves.

Smoothly narrated and crisply shot, Death in the Dorms does an excellent job of painting the tragic pictures of these young lives cut short in vivid clarity. The sequences featuring the effect of the murders on the families involved number amongst the documentary's strongest - casting light on the varied number of methods that human beings use to process such unimaginable levels of grief.

It's shocking, intelligent and legitimately terrifying in many instances - a polished documentary that simultaneously pays respectful tribute to the unrealized potential of the victims while bringing the traumatic circumstances behind their deaths to life onscreen.
