10 Best True Crime Documentaries Of 2023 (So Far)

8. Catching Killers

The Hatchet Wielding Hitchhiker
Netflix

Recently debuting on Netflix with relatively little in the way of fanfare, the latest four-part installment of the gripping true crime documentary series Catching Killers tackles some of their biggest and most notorious murderers to date, with episodes concerning the infamous tales of the New York Zodiac and the Olympic Park Bomber amongst others.

Catching Killers operates from the perspective of those investigating the cases. The varied and spine-chilling accounts provided by notable faces involved add an extra layer of detail, cultivating an ominous atmosphere of tension.

As with past seasons of Netflix's series, a key strength of the documentary is the manner in which it highlights the ramifications these investigations had on the detectives' lives outside of work. The emphasis on this element allows for a layered insight examination of the lives of these remarkably resilient human beings.
