10 Best Vampire Horror Movies You've Never Heard Of
2. Habit (1995)
On paper, Habit does nothing new: A borderline hedonistic artist (Larry Fessenden), mourning the loss of his father, is plucked from his grief by an alluring vampire (Meredith Snaider) who introduces him to a cycle of addiction and masochism.
But it's the way that Fessenden, who also wrote and directed the film, captures the artist's pain and downward spiral that Habit soars. It's more of a drama than an outright horror - though it is horrific in parts - working best as a powerful metaphor for grief and dependency, taking place in a gritty New York City.
Brought alive by the horribly discomforting performance of Fessenden and its sharp insight into toxic relationships, Habit is not a conventional vampire movie by any means, but it is a thematically dense one that, whilst long and often gruellingly bleak, remains an absolute treat for fans of the genre after something new.
