10 Best War Movie Scenes Of All Time

7. Glory - The 2nd Battle Or Fort Wagner

Glory features several intense and realistic battle scenes. Still, if you had to pick one that stands out from the rest, it would have to be the 2nd Battle of Fort Wagner, which was the final combat scene in the movie.

Before it began, Colonel Robert Shaw delivers an incredible speech, and the men of the 54th Massachusetts Infantry Regiment storm the beach. Throughout the movie, various combat scenes depicted realistic engagements between units in forests and fields. The siege of Fort Wagner was something else entirely.

As the men approach, they are hit with mortar and cannon fire, killing many as they progress. When they finally make it to the walls of the fort, the remaining Soldiers manage to rally and engage despite the constant onslaught of musket fire from above.

As Shaw regains his resolve, he readies his sidearm and leads the men in a charge up the walls. He makes it near the top and is shot several times, but he continues to his last breath. Seeing this, the men pick up the colors and engage the enemy, managing to take the wall, breaching the fort's defenses.

James Horner and the Boys Choir of Harlem's crescendo elevates the scene while maintaining the realism and tension of the moment. It's one of the best uses of choral instrumentation in a combat scene, which is saying something.
