10 Best War Movie Scenes Of All Time

6. Zulu - Battle Of Rorke's Drift

Zulu is an often-overlooked war movie that is definitely worth watching. It depicts the Battle of Rorke's Drift, which was fought between the British Army and the Zulu Kingdom in January 1879. The battle involved only 150 British Soldiers, many of whom were sick and wounded, defending their position against a force of 4,000 men.

On the one side, you have a weakened force with vast technological superiority. On the other, you have 4,000 warriors ready to take their position. It's difficult to root for the British Army, seeing as its sole purpose is to drive the Zulu warriors off their lands.

It's British colonialism at its worst, but it also features brilliant defensive and offensive strategies carried out by both sides. Despite their technological inferiority to the British, the Zulus are presented as honorable warriors intent on defeating their oppressors.

Before any combat takes place, both sides call out in their own way; the Zulus with their chants, and then the British, singing songs of home. The Zulu charge, the British ready their defense, and five minutes of intense fighting sees the British standing victorious in a battle that was inevitable and hard-fought.

Wave after wave of Zulu warriors fall to the British rifles, as their commander yells "Fire!" over and over again. When the dust finally settles, it's difficult to feel a sense of victory for the British, who stand unharmed over the corpses of thousands while the remaining gather and walk away.
