10 Best War Movie Scenes Of All Time

3. All Quiet On The Western Front - Charging Into No Man's Land

During the First World War, the machine gun's power was introduced onto the battlefields of France. With its fiery intensity, it slaughtered wave after wave of men on both sides. Trenches were dug, and Soldiers took up defensive positions, leaving the ground in between as a so-called "No Man's Land."

Charging through No Man's Land was a near-certain guarantee of death. While several movies have attempted to portray this accurately, the one that did it best was All Quiet on the Western Front. The film's narrative is overtly anti-war, and it depicts this best with the French charge of the German line.

The men flow from their trenches into the deadliest territory of the conflict, and they die by the thousands. Machinegun fire is coupled with mortals and artillery that peppers the landscape with craters and bodies. When the French finally make their way to the German trenches, the real battle begins.

Men stab, bludgeon, and shoot one another in close-combat fighting that genuinely encapsulates the brutality of trench warfare. The movie depicts this perfectly and manages to realistically and intensely show the horrors of the Great War in a way that's only been matched by the likes of Gallipoli, Paths of Glory, and 1917.
