10 Big 2018 Movies You Should Be Worried About

Reason To Be Worried: It's (another) darker take on the character.

Do the producers of 2018's Robin Hood not remember the last time we had a darker, grittier take on the title character? It was 7 years ago, it starred Russel Crowe, and it was bad. So why re-tread that same ground again?

Robin Hood, like Meg, is better off with a lighter approach. It's about a gang of merry men, after all, most of whom sport tights and enjoy a good ol' singalong around a burning campfire. What, exactly, needs to be 'dark' or 'gritty' - words used by lead Taron Egerton when describing the film - about that?

Robin's cheerfulness and happiness is meant to contrast with the uppity, rude, snobbish nature of the rich people he regularly steals from, which helps the viewer side with Robin instead of just labelling him as a common criminal. By making Robin dark too, this is lost, and he'll look as bad as the real villains of the piece.

Danny has been with WhatCulture for almost nine years, and is currently Doctor Who Editor and WhoCulture Channel Manager, overseeing all of WhatCulture's Whoniverse coverage. He has been writing and video editing for 10+ years, and first got a taste for content creation after making his own Doctor Who trailers and uploading them to YouTube (they're admittedly a bit rusty by today's standards). If you need someone to recite every Doctor Who episode in order or to tell you about the making of 1988's Remembrance of the Daleks, Danny is the person to ask.
