10 Big Films From 2013 You've Probably Already Forgotten About

9. Broken City

U.S. Release Date: January 18th What was this about again? An ex-cop seeks revenge on a corrupt mayor who had double-crossed and framed him. I don't mean to pick on every movie that was released this January, after all, we're talking about eleven months ago. Naturally, most people are going to forget about these movies. I have to include "Broken City" on this list though, considering it starred Russell Crowe, Mark Wahlberg, and Catherine Zeta-Jones and it was forgotten about less than a week after it came out. Before "Broken City," the last movie Mark Wahlberg had starred in was "Ted" which made over $500 million worldwide in the box office. Meanwhile, Russell Crowe was part of the ensemble cast of "Les Miserables," which came out one month earlier, and was a huge success as well. Put those two actors together and what happens? Their movie doesn't even make back its $35 million budget. "Broken City" had an inauspicious beginning, too. Screenwriter Brian Tucker's script was bought by production company, Mandate Pictures, all the way back in 2008. After three years of being in development hell, director Allen Hughes stepped in and production finally began in the Fall of 2011. The movie came out on January 18th of this year and was being played on over 2,600 theaters across America. The movie opened to less than enthusiastic reviews and completely flaked out at the box office. Less than one month after its release, the film was in less than 200 theaters. Now, that's pretty a forgettable movie, wouldn't you say?
