10 Big Movie Twists That Were So Obvious It Actually Hurt

7. Dr. Gordon Is Jigsaw's Final Accomplice - Saw 3D

Lionsgate

The Twist: In what was originally intended as the final Saw film, we see Jigsaw's (Tobin Bell) unruly apprentice, Detective Hoffman (Costas Mandylor) end up in the very bathroom where the story began.

Who took him there? Dr. Gordon (Cary Elwes), of course, the guy who sawed off his own foot in order to escape Jigsaw's trap, and wasn't sighted again until this very film. It turns out that Jigsaw nursed Gordon back to health, and recruited him as an accomplice, his job being to bring Hoffman down in the event that anything happened to Jigsaw's former wife, Jill (Betsy Russell).

Why It's Obvious: For starters, Gordon shows up earlier in the movie at a self-help group for Jigsaw's victims, already implying that he'll get a more major role later on; after all, why bring him back for such an insignificant part?

Then there's the fact that it's been talked about for years that Gordon would return and be revealed as the sole survivor, given how he was very much the heart and soul of the first film. No hard feelings, though: despite how so-so the movie was, it ended in a relatively satisfying and appropriately ridiculous fashion.
