10 Big Movie Twists That Were So Obvious It Actually Hurt

8. Johnny Depp Is A Murderous Psychopath - Secret Window

The Twist: Mort Rainey (Johnny Depp) is a successful writer who ends up being accused of plagiarism by a shadowy-looking man named John Shooter (John Turturro), but what Mort comes to realise at the end of the movie is that Shooter is in fact a figment of his imagination, a by-product of Multiple Personality Disorder. He "becomes" Shooter whenever he has to do something depraved, and at the end of the movie, this involves killing his soon-to-be ex-wife (Maria Bello) and her partner Ted (Timothy Hutton), and burying them in his garden.

Why It's Obvious: By 2004, when this movie came out, audiences had just been inundated with similar movies trying to trick viewers, and it was just a matter of time before they began to see through them. For every Fight Club, there's a Secret Window, and it certainly didn't help that some of the trailers intimated the possibility of Shooter not being real, which is a ridiculous seed to sew in the viewer's minds before they even get in the cinema.

Instead of shocking audiences, it inspired exasperated laughter and sighs above all else.
