10 Big Movie Twists That Were So Obvious It Actually Hurt

5. Marcus Is A Cyborg - Terminator Salvation

New Line Cinema

The Twist: Marcus Wright (Sam Worthington) is saved from a T-600 attack by John Connor (Christian Bale), after which he falls in with the human Resistance. However, he ends up being wounded by a mine, at which point they realise the truth: Marcus is part-cyborg, part-human, having a mechanical endoskeleton, but still retaining his human heart and brain (though the latter is partly cybernetic).

Why It's Obvious: Well, the trailer folks stupidly decided to ruin this one as well. Had audiences not known about this, it would have made for a shocking moment mid-way through the film, and we can assume from the way the movie was written that audiences were supposed to be blind-sided by it, but the marketing department completely blew what may have been the best part of the movie by giving it away for free in the trailers.

As such, our interest was piqued, assuming that this would be revealed in the first act of the movie, giving them time to make a comment on what defines a machine and a human, and so on. Instead, the final movie treats it like some stunning revelation, even though audiences were made acutely aware of it six months before. So dumb.
