10 Big Movie Twists That Were So Obvious It Actually Hurt
4. The Whole Movie Is Part Of "The Game" - The Game
The Twist: Wealthy investment banker Nicholas Van Orton (Michael Douglas) has become embroiled in a strange plot which appears to threaten both his business acumen and his life, but it turns out that all the events of the movie were part of The Game, a birthday present purchased for him by his younger brother Conrad (Sean Penn) in order to force Nicholas to embrace life and not end up like their father, who committed suicide.
Why It's Obvious: It was a twist ending hiding in plain sight, and to be fair, the resolution was always going to either be the game being real or not at all. Still, it seemed far more likely that all of this danger was being carefully controlled, and as such, when Nicholas takes a tumble off the roof right at the end of the movie, we were pretty much expecting him to land on an air bag or a net. Thankfully, it's such a great movie that it doesn't end up too damaged by its rather predictable reveal.
