10 Big-Name Actors Who Were Wasted In Major Blockbusters
1. Bryan Cranston In Godzilla
Godzilla never had the best run with American audiences. After the Roland Emmerich produced version disappointed tremendously in 1998, it would take over a decade for the famous lizard to return to Hollywood. Directed by Gareth Evans, the film eventually brought the always-reliable Bryan Cranston onboard.
He played scientist Joe Brody, starring alongside Aaron Taylor-Johnson as they grapple with the rise of unstoppable kaiju monsters. Things were looking good as the film neared completion; it had a strong cast, got the leading monster right and boasted a gigantic scale to boot.
Continuing to employ his excellent acting chops from Breaking Bad the previous year, Bryan Cranston stood out as one of the better performers in the new take on Godzilla. The prologue set up an interesting struggle for his character as he looked to unravel the mystery of what killed his wife inside the Japanese reactor.
However, in a crushing blow to the film's better qualities, Brody senior is injured by one of the monsters and dies shortly afterward, zipped up in a body bag just one third of the way in. There's no payoff to his story and as a result, Godzilla 2014 shoves its audience into the boots of generic military action instead. What a waste...
