10 Big-Name Actors Who Were Wasted In Major Blockbusters

8. Brie Larson in Kong: Skull Island

Brie Larson may be a contentious and unlikeable actress nowadays, but her talent for acting was once a great example of powerfully raw emotion. Her stellar performance in Room paved the way for larger roles in bigger productions, most notably Captain Marvel in the MCU. Following an academy award for best actress at the 2016, Brie naturally started to branch out into other projects, before eventually arriving in another big franchise with Jordan Vogt-Roberts' Kong: Skull Island.

Larson played a Vietnam War photographer who accompanies the American platoon to the elusive island and much like the other big names, her performance and characterisation is wafer-thin. When you watch Larson in Kong: Skull Island, why is she really there?

Seemingly it's only to take pictures and create some kind of empathy for the monster at its centre with little depth to boot. How she's able to pull through the danger without any military experience only added to the frustration. In a Monsterverse that consistently gives its human characters a poor script, Larson's ability certainly goes to waste.

Maybe she simply wasn't a good fit for this production? Smaller-scale productions appear to have brought out better performances from the actress and she may be better off sticking to that sort of project.
