OK, so no one's losing sleep over what films should and should not have been nominated for the Makeup and Hairstyling category (sorry, makeup artists and hairstylists, no respect, it's just the way it is). But The Imitation Game seemed like it would have been a prime choice considering the types of films that routinely get nominated. There's usually at least one science fiction film, with wacky prosthetics and alien makeup that are so inventive and interesting that of course they should be nominated. But then there's often a couple historical films, or biopics, because of all the work that goes into making actors look like figures from the past. And while Benedict Cumberbatch didn't have to undergo much of a physical transformation to play Alan Turing, it is a film that takes place over the course of about fifteen years, so there is subtle aging makeup done to make him look like a young man in his late 20s at the beginning of the film, and also a frail, weak 40-something by the end. In addition, the 40s makeup and hair is seriously on point for all of the characters, so it seems a shame it wouldn't be recognized. Oh well.
