10 Biggest Behind-The-Scenes Fights From The Making Of Famous Movies

8. Debra Winger Vs. Shirley MacLaine (Terms Of Endearment)

Things may not have gotten overtly physical on the set of the ultimate tearjerker, Terms of Endearment, but it's certainly fair to say there was no love lost between MacLaine and Winger, who played a mother and daughter constantly at odds in the film. To hear the other cast and crew members tell it, this was just another case of actors staying in character after the cameras stopped rolling. But there's a difference between behaving like your character and just being outright dicks to each other, which is a more accurate description of their interactions behind the scenes. In MacLaine's autobiography, she says she was constantly the butt of Winger's mean-spirited pranks, which included such delightful capers as farting in MacLaine's face (it's entirely possible neither of these women know what a prank is). The verbal altercations were endless, with Jack Nicholson frequently acting as the mediator and bouncer whenever the two ladies were on set together. Director James L. Brooks has referred to Nicholson in interviews as "the glue of the production," which is only said about someone as batsh*t crazy as Jack Nicholson when the people around him are acting truly insane. Not surprisingly, the two of them are still not on speaking terms.
