10 Biggest Box Office Bombs That Lost Millions

1. 47 Ronin

Production Budget: $225,000,000 Worldwide Gross: $150,962,475 Estimated Losses: $149,518,762 Though the story of the 47 Ronin is well-known in Japan, a big budget Hollywood adaptation starring Keanu Reeves was already a risky idea in principle. It turned out that the idea was also risky in reality because 47 Ronin has lost more money than any other movie in history. 47 Ronin's production was hampered by numerous problems, and it was rumoured that director Carl Rinsch €“ who had never directed a feature before €“ was removed from the film during editing. Despite being originally announced in 2008, the film was still unfinished by its November 2012 release date because it had extensive reshoots in August 2012 to focus more on Reeves. It was pushed back to February 2013, but it was pushed back again and was finally released in December 2013. It faced stiff competition from the usual slate of holiday season blockbusters and was generally ignored by moviegoers in the United States, only grossing $38 million there. Though 47 Ronin did significantly better business overseas, its $150.96 million worldwide gross didn't come close to covering its $225 million production costs, resulting in estimated losses of $149.5 million for Universal. It's probably safe to assume there will never be a 47 Ronin sequel. What do you think is the worst movie out of these box office bombs? Are you surprised to see so many Disney movies on this list?
